Our Ethernet switches are designed for use in industrial environments. They are robust, impact-resistant and temperature-resistant. All products fulfil the highest requirements for reliable and flexible industrial Ethernet communication.
Unmanaged switches are the simplest active network components for fast networking. They are suitable as plug-and-play devices, require no configuration and are still customisable. They use basic standardised protocols such as autonegotiation, autocrossing and flow control. They can therefore automatically adapt to a wide variety of transmission speeds or connector assignments.
In order to harmonise the different requirements of communication participants in an industrial network, managed switches from Weidmüller have extensive control mechanisms for data distribution and bandwidth management. Configuration is web-based via a simple and intuitive user interface. From Quality of Service, redundancy, VLAN and SNMP to Access Control Lists, the switches offer a wide range of functions. The certifications for protocols and applications such as PROFINET CC-B, DNV or ATEX make the portfolio universally applicable.
With switches from Weidmüller, you benefit in many ways. Both in terms of service and quality as well as in the selection of suitable appliances.
When selecting a switch, there are a lot of functions and features to consider in order to choose the most efficient and technically best solution in the long term. Selecting the right components is very easy with the product selector in the Weidmüller eShop.

If it can be ensured that no attacker can physically access the system, an unmanaged switch can be used without hesitation.
PROFINET is a communication protocol that is used in industrial automation. In order to fulfil the various requirements in different application areas, PROFINET has been divided into different conformance classes. These classes define the capabilities and properties that a PROFINET device or system must offer in order to support certain applications. There are three main classes:
CC-A: For simple, non-time-critical applications.
CC-B: For more time-critical applications with real-time capability and network management requirements.
CC-C: For highly dynamic applications that require deterministic and synchronised real-time communication.
Most applications require the CC-B class, which is also supported by many Weidmüller switches.
LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) is a standardised protocol (IEEE 802.1AB) that network devices use to transmit information about themselves to neighbouring devices. This information can include, for example, the device name, port information, VLAN assignments and other important network parameters. LLDP is useful in many network infrastructures, especially for the administration and troubleshooting of networks. However, there are scenarios in which it makes sense to block LLDP messages and others in which this should not be done.
LLDP messages should be blocked if: There are security concerns, the LLDP traffic has a negative impact on the network, unwanted connections are to be avoided or company guidelines require this.
LLDP should remain activated if it is used for network management, automatic configuration or in secure, controlled networks.
A missing connection when using fibre optics can be due to a variety of reasons that should be systematically checked:
VLAN segmentation (Virtual Local Area Network) is a technique in which a physical network is divided into several logical networks. Each of these logical networks functions independently of each other, although they are all connected via the same physical network.
VLAN segmentation offers numerous advantages, including increased security, improved network performance, simplified management and increased flexibility. By separating the network into logical units, companies can better control how data flows and at the same time utilise the network infrastructure more efficiently. These advantages make VLANs an important tool for modern network architectures, especially in larger and more complex networks.
Network redundancy models ensure reliability by providing alternative communication paths. There are various redundancy protocols for a wide range of applications. An important feature of redundancy is the recovery time. Generally speaking, open standards tend to have a longer recovery time than proprietary standards.
