The evolution of a revolutionary idea: Weidmüller terminal blocks – a series of pioneering achievements

As a pioneer in industrial connectivity, we repeatedly made industrial history with our innovations. This began in 1948 with the first plastic-insulated terminal block, which set standards worldwide. With more than 75 years of experience in industrial connectivity and billions of contacted conductors, Weidmüller terminal blocks are among the safest and most powerful on the market.

Flexible, light, unbreakable: Weidmüller revolutionised electrical installation with the world's first modular terminal block made of plastic. The SAK series from 1948 already had all the important features of modern terminal blocks, including cross connection options and a marking system. SAK terminal blocks are still successful on the market today. Due to their resistance to high temperatures, acids, and UV light, they are mainly used in harsh environments.

Weidmüller's screwless direct plug-in connection was a milestone in connection technology. With terminal blocks from the DSK series, vibration-proof connections could be made quickly and tool-free for the first time. This made the compact DSK series far ahead of its time. Furthermore, it already had coloured actuating elements for disconnecting the conductors as well as for distinction of potentials. A feature which is still found today in many Weidmüller terminal blocks with PUSH IN connection.

Weidmüller achieved ground-breaking progress in comfort and safety with the modular terminal blocks of the W-Series. In addition to polyamides of fire protection class V0, patented clamping yoke with integrated conductor centering were used for the first time. Furthermore, the W-series was given a consistently user-friendly design with optimum form and functionality for manual rail mounting. The W-Series has been available for almost 40 years and is still one of the most versatile terminal block families worldwide.

Weidmüller Z-series set the market standard for terminal blocks with tension clamp technology. With this connection technology, the conductors are clamped instead of screwed. This saves time and enables vibration-resistant, maintenance-free connections. This ensures a high level of safety and reliability even in critical applications - for example in the railway industry. Due to these advantages and the wide connection range from 0.14 to 35 mm², the Z-series is used today in many different industries and applications worldwide.

Weidmüller's first family of terminal blocks with trend-setting PUSH IN technology was a revolution. The tool-free insertion of rigid conductors and conductors with wire-end ferrules significantly reduced wiring times compared to other connection technologies. In addition, the disconnection of the conductors could be carried out particularly easily and quickly. By reducing to only three sizes in the cross-section range from 0.14 to 16 mm², product selection and stock-keeping became easier. The P series is still used today in many different applications.

Weidmüller terminal blocks with system module functions caused a big sensation. In the A-Series, application-specific sub-families were developed for the first time for different sectors, industries, and control cabinet applications. Uniform inspection and test taps, consistent cross-connections, efficient markers, and timesaving PUSH IN connection technology make the A-Series particularly future-proof. The innovative design with clearly delineated functional areas and coloured pushers ensures maximum connection and maintenance safety.

Weidmüller's latest world innovation is terminal blocks with SNAP IN technology. The AS series enables flexible conductors without ferrules to be wired quickly, easily, and without tools. The conductors are simply inserted into the connection point and the mechanism snaps shut with a clearly audible click. SNAP IN technology guarantees a secure and permanently reliable connection - even for the increasingly automated wiring processes of the future. AS modular terminal blocks are compatible with the A-series and can be used in a variety of ways.

Quick, Simple and Safe - just SNAP IN

Time is money. For this reason, installation work in control cabinet construction must be carried out ever faster, preferably automated. At the same time, the connections should be permanently reliable, safe, and easy to maintain. The new Klippon® Connect terminal blocks with Weidmueller's revolutionary SNAP IN technology meet all these requirements - and are extremely easy to use: stripped fine-stranded conductors just need to be inserted into the connection point, and the connection point snaps shut with a clearly audible click. The conductor is permanently and reliably contacted. To release the connection, press the green pusher. It couldn't be faster or easier.

Klippon® Connect terminal blocks with innovative SNAP IN technology
  • The new SNAP IN connection technology will take your wiring processes to a whole new level.
  • Direct and tool-free wiring without ferrules. Simply insert the stripped wire into the pre-loaded connection point.
  • Pre-loaded SNAP IN spring connection guarantees a safe and gas-tight connection of the conductor.
  • Ready-to-robot and ready for the future.
