Wednesday 28th January – The National Space Centre, Leicester.
We are pleased to advise you that Weidmuller will be present at the EPLAN, “Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution event”, being held on Wednesday, 28th January at the National Space Centre in Leicester. The day will examine the Industry 4.0 concept in detail, explaining how it will help those who adopt it to develop intelligent manufacturing operations that are flexible, efficient, cost-effective and future proof.
EPLAN’s Industry 4.0 event will include demonstrations of integration technologies, highlighting in particular how technologies that are available right now can significantly improve integration along the value chain. The event will also explore how some of Europe’s most successful companies are already preparing for Industry 4.0.
In the light of Industry 4.0, customised, highly flexible and self-controlling production units often still seem to be a vision of the future. As a progressive thinker and trailblazer, at Weidmüller, we already offer concrete solutions that will allow producing companies to prepare themselves for the “Internet of Things” and for safe production control from the Cloud – without the need to modernise their entire range of machinery. Indeed, we are already working and developing the next generation of individual components, as well as planning complete production facilities for the factory of the future, in conjunction with leading industrial and research partners.
Simon Keogh, Head of Factory Automation at Siemens, will present the keynote paper, “Industry 4.0: What, Why and How?” Visitors can also participate in workshops and inspect exhibits from Weidmuller and other industry leaders. The workshops will cover a wide range of topics including robotics, cloud technology, software interfaces, machine safety and UK engineering predictions. Weidmuller will be delivering a presentation entitled “Industry Network Technology: The path to 2020” which will be presented by our specialists John Jackson/Conrad Blenkinsop.
As visitors to EPLAN’s event will learn, the key goal of Industry 4.0 is to create intelligent (smart) factories with a focus on cyber physical systems primarily consisting of communication technologies, software, senses and processes – all of which have the potential, through cloud technology, to communicate and interact with each other in an intelligent way.
Ken Christie, Director of EPLAN said, “Despite the perceived complexity of Industry 4.0, what companies sometimes fail to realise is that many of the key technologies are available today. As a result, many companies are only using a fraction of the potential of the technologies they already have in place, which means that they are needlessly sacrificing revenues and productivity enhancements.”
“If UK companies are to compete successfully in the global marketplace, it is essential that they take full advantage of Industry 4.0 has to offer. Germany’s National Academy of Science and Engineering has stated that Industry 4.0 could lead to a 30% increase in industrial activity, which is hugely significant in today’s post-recession economy”.
