To guarantee high levels of availability of inverters and electrical components utilized in photovoltaic systems it is necessary to protect them against destruction through overvoltage surges. Deploying appropriate safeguards is the only method of preventing PV system failures and the resulting reduction in financial returns.
For photovoltaic systems in particular Weidmüller offers its proven overvoltage arrester PU II. This Class II surge protective device is supplied integrated and wired in an IP65 rated housing. Depending on the version the PV boxes protect the inverter against surges in DC or AC circuits. The boxes have been type-tested in an accredited high-voltage laboratory. Systems above 10 kW are required to have corresponding overvoltage protection installed.
To facilitate straightforward connection the Plug and Play boxes are equipped with commercially available MC4 connection systems. Weidmüller’s family of PV boxes comprises five versions: DC protection for one or two solar strings; AC/DC protection for one or two solar strings as well as a ‘PV box Multistring’ to protect eight solar strings. Weidmüller is also able to supply other customer-specific assemblies – including alternative connections to MC4.
