Detmold/Hanover. April 21, 2008 | Weidmüller was honored today with the seal of quality “Top Employer for Engineers 2008”. In a ranking of 25 major companies, Weidmüller took fourth place. The manufacturer of products and solutions in the field of electrical connectivity, functional electronics and communication electronics scored particularly well in the categories “Job Security” and “Innovation Management”. “Innovations are at the heart of our new corporate strategy. Being honored in this category shows that we’re heading in the right direction,” explains Weidmüller’s CFO Werner Dilly. The seal of quality is awarded by the research company CRF, A.T. Kearney and the Technical University of Munich.
Weidmüller will invest a total of € 136 million in its global facilities over the next two years in order to extend its technological expertise. In addition, it will create 200 jobs for engineers. The number of Group employees rose by 407 in 2007, of which 123 were new jobs created in Germany. Weidmüller aims to counter the general lack of skilled staff on the market by redoubling its efforts in the field of vocational education and training. The Detmold-based company has steadily increased the number of apprenticeships it offers, and now boasts a trainee ratio of 10 percent. Weidmüller continues to meet part of its needs for skilled staff and managers internally with the aid of its targeted Expertise Management System, in which young engineers are prepared for future responsibilities during an 18-month traineeship. The Weidmüller Academy also cooperates closely with numerous universities. “As a company which is clearly committed to cutting-edge technological expertise and excellence, Weidmüller offers engineers particularly promising prospects. We are an internationally operating company with our finger on the pulse of technological developments – and we’re successful,” says Werner Dilly.
In the extensive survey conducted for the “Top Employer for Engineers 2008” award, CRF, A.T. Kearney and TU Munich examined 25 mid-sized and large corporations which employed a higher-than-average number of engineers. The study focused particularly on innovation management and the quality of their respective HR strategies. Points were awarded for the value attached to aspects such as Internationality, Compensation, Work-Life Balance and Development Opportunities, Corporate Culture and Job Safety in comparison to other companies.
