Detmold/Hanover. April 21, 2008 | Weidmüller has announced at the Hanover Fair that it plans to launch an extensive investment program. The Detmold-based manufacturer will invest a total of € 136 million in its global facilities over the next two years aimed at enhancing its technological expertise and safeguarding the company’s future development. An amount of € 50 million will be invested this year alone at the company’s main facility in Detmold. The major share of this amount will be dedicated to the construction of a new Technology Center, due to be completed in 2010. The company will also create 200 engineering jobs in Germany. For is fiscal year 2007, Weidmüller has posted record sales of € 503 million.
“High innovative strength, excellent cost positions, efficient structures, motivated and highly skilled staff and the ability to open up new markets, all make Weidmüller a company with stable and highly promising prospects,” explained Dr. Joachim Belz, CEO of the Weidmüller Group, at the Hanover Fair. At € 503 million, the company posted the highest sales of its 60-year history in 2007. The figure corresponds to year-on-year growth of around 14 percent (sales 2006: € 443 million). Germany accounted for approximately 30 percent of total sales.
The number of Group employees rose by 407, from 2,982 to 3,389. A total of 123 new jobs were created in Germany. Capital expenditures in 2007 amounted to € 37 million. “Weidmüller is making sustained investments in its technological expertise and creating new jobs. We are thus securing our future development and setting a clear signal for our customers,” says Werner Dilly, CFO of the Weidmüller Group.
Focus on excellence and technological expertise
Against the backdrop of changes in its sector, Weidmüller is also actively driving change within the company. With the aid of a new corporate strategy, Weidmüller aligned itself more strictly with market requirements and customer needs in 2007. The new strategy aims to position the company as a supplier of excellence within the premium segment. In order to achieve this, Weidmüller will enhance its technological expertise and focus clearly on innovations offering high customer benefits, as well as on excellence in all corporate divisions. In terms of operations, the company has a new business field organization with the three core areas: Electrical Connectivity, Functional Electronics and Communication Electronics.
26 new products at the Hanover Fair 2008
At this year’s Hanover Fair, the company – which today was honored as “Top Employer for Engineers 2008” – is presenting a total of 26 new products. These include the PrintJet Pro, the only inkjet printing system currently on the market to offer detailed image color prints, robust, heavy-duty design and high processing speeds.
The new WAVE TTA (Transmitter Trip Amplifier) is the only universal signal converter with such a broad spectrum of functions, including configurable input signals, adjustable output functions and processing routines.
The signal converter family ACT20X represents the first step into the Zone 0 hazardous area for active Weidmüller products. The new electronics enclosures of the ACT20X family will also represent the new face of functional electronics in the switching cabinet.
With its new SAI Bluetooth modules in the IP67 protection class, Weidmüller has established itself as an innovative pioneer in the field of safe and reliable wireless data transmission in industrial environments. The special feature is their ability to connect to as many as six slaves and to process both digital and analog signals.
In addition, Weidmüller will be presenting ideas and solutions for future automation networks under the slogan “future. made by Weidmüller” in the Future World Module on stand B60, Hall 11.
