Data interfaces such as Ethernet, RS 232, RS 422, RS 485 and LON systems are protected from overvoltage by fitting overvoltage protection equipment to the wiring in front of the terminals. This allows such decentralised units, such as controls, computers, transducers and actuators, to transmit data, figures, status reports and variables to one another without interference.
